Rationale

Madrid is commonly known for its rich culutre and spirit. Flamenco dancing is a large part of this culture. For that reason I wanted to create an Olympic bid logo that represents the fluid motions of a woman in a flamenco dress. I chose to do a hand drawn logo with a stylized brush to portray the organic shape a dress makes when moving with the dancer. I used a gradient of pink on the left to a deep red on the right. I chose this color palette to represent the red fabric that is commonly used in a flamenco dress. I paired the drawing with Josefin Sans for madrid to contrast the stylized drawing with a thin, ‘clean’ type face. I also chose to use capital ‘D’s in order to keep the text within a rectangle. They stylized ‘44’ matches the style of the drawn form and pulles the type in with the drawing very nicely.
